Thank you for your interest in applying for the Commonwealth Scholarships Program for South Australia. This page is designed to help you navigate the application process.

Key dates

First round applications were open in October 2017, second round applications were open from November 2017 to January 2018.

Who can apply?

If you answer ‘yes’ to the following six criteria, you are eligible to apply:


  1. Are you an Australian citizen or permanent resident?
  2. Are you eligible to undertake an approved program of study?
  3. Are you aged 15 to 64 years at commencement of study?
  4. Are you a new student or in the first year of your study program?
  5. Are you living in, or will relocate to, South Australia for the duration of the scholarship?
  6. Are you willing and able to participate in an internship (where applicable)?
    *A critical component of the program is the scholars’ participation in paid internship, in which Scholars will undertake an internship for a period equivalent to 20 business days. The internship will be in addition to the Approved Program of Study. See Program Guidelines Sections 4.7 and 8.3 for more information.
  7. Do you intend to enter the workforce or accept employment in South Australia at the end of the course of study or training?

Starting your application

Applications will be accepted via an online application portal.


The portal will allow you to develop a personal login and profile, and create your application for the current round. You will be able to use this profile to apply in the future if you are unsuccessful the first time.


Please note, the portal is not compatible with mobile phones. For the greatest ease we suggest completing your application on a desktop computer.


You will submit the following as part of your application:


  1. Relevant personal information (e.g. name, contact details)
  2. Information about your proposed program of study
  3. Your responses to the selection criteria:
    • Criteria 1: Alignment with priority industries (60% weighting)
      Describe how your program of study provides a pathway to employment in one or more of South Australia’s priority industries. Refer to Section 4.2 of the Program Guidelines to assist with your response.
    • Criteria 2: Capacity to benefit (40% weighting)
      Outline your commitment to complete your study or training and internship, how a Scholarship will assist you to complete your study and your career goals.
  4. Supporting documentation that confirms your eligibility to apply.

Email your completed form plus your supporting documentation by the due date to


Prepare your responses to the selection criteria offline on a separate document. You can then copy and paste your complete response onto the portal and avoid losing unsaved work due to internet connection issues or your log in ‘timing out’.


When you are working in the online application portal, click ‘save’ regularly, especially before entering your responses to the selection criteria.


When developing your selection criteria responses, use plain text and simple formatting to ensure easy and clear transfer onto the portal.


As the portal is not mobile compatible, we suggest using a desktop computer to complete your application.
